52’-6” “Greenville Gondola” for the P&LE

Part Number: PC-3606

Price: $397.00

The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie, a subsidiary of the the NYC, was the biggest user of the “Greenville Gondola”, with 6,000 cars built to this “clone” design. Construction was spread between NYC’s Despatch Shops (4,000) and Bethlehem Steel Car Co (2,000).  Except with one order of 1,000 cars from DSI with wood floors in 1945, all P&LE’s cars came with riveted steel plate floors.  Tie-downs were limited to 32 side ciips welded to the outsides, although all “Greenville” cars came with the standard 1-1/4” chamfered rope/cable holes in the top rail.

A number of additional cars with the exact same components also went to parent NYC in Series 71300-713599 and Series 714100-714599.  As a result, this car can also correctly be painted and lettered for the NYC within the range of those series numbers.

Decals for this car are available at Protocraft Decals
