This lettering sheet is for Western Maryland’s 40-foot steel box cars wtih the “Fast Freight Line” ball emblem scheme.
The lettering set contains data for WM’s 1932 ARA box car with a 9’-3” IH, built by Bethlehem Steel and delivered in April, 1937, as
Series 27001-27500. Later in January 1940, an additional 500 1932 ARA boxcars were delivered from Pressed Steel Car Company
as as Series 27501-28000; and in March 1942, Pressed Steel delivered 200 additional cars as Series 28001-28200.
In September 1945, General American Transportation Corp delivered 100 1937 AAR design 9’-11” IH boxcars under Lot #2954,
Series 28201-28300.
The characters and emblem were created from actual Western Maryland stencils and from prototype photos for maximum
