In 1951 and 1952, the RI received 3,000 new 40’-6” steel boxcars. All were lettered with the new “100 Years of Progress” medallion. Two thousand were PS-1 Class by Pullman-Standard, Lot 8028, Series 21000-22999, with the remaining 1,000 from AC&F, Lot - , Series 23000-23999 (earlier in 1950, ACF delivered 1,000 of this class Series 24000-24999, but with the earlier lettering scheme) Cars were painted a red-brown (1 part Floquil #74 an 1 part Floquil #186) Underbody and truck side frames coated with black car cement. Wheel unpainted and allowed to gather road grime an axle grease. Lettering designed and created at Protocraft Decals. Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet |
