In August of 1941, the Cotton Belt built 95, 50’ boxcars in its company shops at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. These were assigned road number as Series 20000-20094. Later in August of 1944, the shops built an additional 90 identical cars as Series 20110-20199. These cars utilized the lightweight sheeting employed by other SSW cars as well as the UP, requiring additional inside bracing and thus the alternate double row rivet pattern, and a substantial centered side sill running half the car’s length. These cars came with an 8’ Youngstown door, Murphy raised panel roof and 5/5 Dreadnaught ends with round (W) corner construction for and inside height of 10’-6”. Hand brake was a Equipco Power hand brake and Morton running boards. Cars ran on Bettendorf design 50-ton trucks.
